This style of mining/industrial portrait has become one of my signature looks. I have referred to it in the past as my “Thank You” portrait for taking the time to allow me to photograph them in their environment. This was taken last year at the end of “The Drift” shoot. Thanks Cindy and Vale Creighton Mine for making this happen.
Rahnmet (www.rahnmet.ca) has been repairing steel, cast iron and bronze parts for over 90 years and I got to see the process first hand while I visited their shop located in North Bay Ontario back in late 2018.
Underground in Manitouwadge with Manroc. When you remove the color from an image your eyes are drawn to the main subject of the environment and hopefully it coincides with the subject you intended to spotlight.
Another forgotten image I created years ago in an open pit mine site. I watched this Caterpillar skid loader zooming around here and there with precision so when he stopped and got out to check something I took the opportunity to capture a few images.

Well I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend, I can honestly say it was a quiet one for this mining photog. With the Covid isolation in effect and photography not an essential service, I cannot create any “new” images which gives me a lot of time to organize my website and catch up on some essential reading in the industry.
From www.puregoldmining.ca instagram is an image I created in the core room while on site in Red Lake. Pure Gold currently has 1.2 million meters of drilling in their database.
Stay safe everyone and I hope to see you all on site soon.
Looking forward to creating new images for my clients but for the next little while I will be working from home and showcasing past images for your viewing pleasure lol. Here are some images I have created over the years for MacLean Engineering. A shoutout to Stuart Lister for trusting me with creating some equipment visuals. www.miningphotog.com
When collaborating with a new client we discuss the photography needs in regards to media, variety and application. If you contact me to discuss photography I will ask you what you images you have used in the past and we will discuss the different ideas to showcase your product in a way that is different than previous images.
My goal with all my images is to get people to view it, read it, click it and ask for more information about it. My goal is to create a variety of high impact usable images to be used on my clients website, marketing materials, trade show booths and their social media platforms as well as featured articles in trade magazines. Sometimes we have the time for elaborate setups and sometimes I am shooting on the fly but each time I present my clients with the best product I can create.
If you think your company is lacking on visuals I would love to talk to you. I will look at your content, your image library and I’ll be honest with you from the start if I think you already have great photography or if there is room for improvement.

This Caterpillar Haul truck was only stationary for a few minutes where I managed to capture this image and then get out of the way.
Most people will never see the true scale of innovation, technology, safety and sustainability the mining industry encompasses. I have been fortunate enough to create images that showcase the mining world above and below the earth as well as the people whose lives are dedicated to it’s success. There is so much of this industry I have yet to see and photograph as it is continuously evolving and this is what pushes me to get to the next level of creativity.
