I had the opportunity to photograph another Jumbo last month. Always reminds me of something out of the movie Aliens. I hope in the future I can photograph these badboys on surface to see just how creative we can get.

A few weeks ago Vale had “Take Your Kids To Work Day” so I followed them around for a few hours capturing images of their experience. I thought wedding receptions were fast paced (when I used to photograph them) but shooting on the fly underground can be tricky as the lighting is constantly changing. All in all I thought the kids had a great experience learning the process of underground mining and smelting. First impressions are huge as these kids will be our future in this industry.
It was hard to pick a few images out of hundreds for this post.
Recently I posted some “behind the camera” images taken of my while on my shoot for Dumas Mining. Here is the finished image I was creating of this underground scoop.

Sometimes when we are in the coreshack I get lucky with the direction of the sunlight. We had the top covers open for this shot to show the blue sky and clouds outside and also the backdoors open to bring in a bit of light for a “backlight” to fill in the shadows on the right side. Using the big white overhead door as a light panel the sun bounced off it onto my subject.

It doesn’t take much light to see underground but where the light doesn’t touch it becomes the blackest of black.

Yesterday I was sent some images of myself in action from Angela while we were underground in Timmins last week. So here are a few of me in action while photographing Dumas Mining in Northern Ontario.

Last week I had a very successful shoot with the Dumas staff at Hoyle Pond Mine in Timmins Ontario. I want to use this post to personally thank them all again for their professionalism and safety awareness while I was on site. It was also a pleasure to finally meet Angela (pictured below) who orchestrated the shoot and also helped as my assistant when I needed one.
