Earlier this week I was thinking about last years trip to Greece with www.pendaproductions.com and Eldorado Gold to photograph the different mining sites of the area and then today I am again reminded of my time there while reading EG’s recent Sustainability Report that features some of my images like the one below that I captured while visiting the Skouris site in the Halkidiki Peninsula of Northern Greece.
With just a couple of quick visits to the Pure Gold Mining Madsen Project I created a wide variety of images that they have used (and using) in their marketing materials as well as their social media platforms like Linkedin and Instagram. With such a wide variety of images (underground mining, core shack, exploration, environmental) they now have high impact images to accompany any editorial materials where a good photographic image is needed. It’s been great to see these images accompanying write ups on sites like Canadian Mining Journal, Northern Ontario Business, and The Drift.
I look forward to visiting their site again to create new images but with the abundance of custom images they already have it might be awhile lol.
I was waiting patiently for them start emerging from the mine entrance so that I could capture some candid moments during the shift change. Some walk on past without lifting their heads. Some are already in a deep conversation with their coworkers reviewing the days activities and some take a moment to pause, look at the camera and give me a little something to capture.

It’s a quick in out for this image. Before I setup my lighting and start shooting I get a quick walk through of where my subject will be standing, what positions they will move into throughout the process and where I can get the most effective image while being safe. Once the sun dips down behind the horizon the mine site takes on a completely different look. I love capturing images at this time as it’s a great way to blend colors and lighting into the same environment. When we arrived on site the first day and drove past this location at night I new I wanted to come back and capture this image. Big thanks to Abdel Camacho for taking me around for a sunset drive. They are easy to create and for most it’s as basic as pressing one button and voila, you have an image of the scene you wanted to capture. We scroll through hundreds of images on our social media feeds and only stop on the ones that catch our eye or our interests. Sometimes, that is all that is needed to grab someones attention. Sure it could be the title or even some of the copy associated with the image, but mostly it’s because of the picture. Eye catching images compliment content. It’s as simple as that. Yes, sometimes the images is used once and only once and then it is forgotten, but that is what all social media is comprised of so it is important in your marketing, branding, and social media to have images that stand out, catch your customers eyes and intrigue them to take the next step and read what you have to say about your company. Does it work? Yes it does. How do I know? Because I have built a career creating images for your industry.

As she crawls her way along the rocky path illuminating the surroundings that briefly go by her presence is always one of wonder and awe.
A few images I created of a Jumbo for Dumas Mining at the Goldcorp Hoyle Pond Mine located in Timmins Ontario. My intention was to use the leading lines of the long boom arms to bring your eyes directly to the operator where as in the last image your gaze goes directly to the rock face.
