My What A Big Box You Have
The bigger the better I always say! There is no denying that this Joy Global Haul truck has an “in your face” big box.

There are always unique photo opportunities when I am setting up my equipment for a creative shoot and I am always aware of things that are happening around me, not only for safety reasons but for those candid “quick snap” images that can tell a story.
When I am on site working I try to capture as much as I can in the amount of time I have available. Not only do I capture images of the equipment where I have to setup lighting, but during that time I also capture the scenery, people, conversations and whatever else I think my client can use in their marketing materials. These images all add to the big picture – variety.
You can see the diversity of images I capture during my visits by viewing my International Mining Photography Galleries
These images showcase just a small fraction of images I created for them.
It’s all quiet except the thrumbing of the plant and as the sun dips behind the horizon there is a moment of a few minutes where both the ambient light and the illumination from the plant coincide with each other to create a blending of light and color.
Largo Resources www.largoresources.com is mining the worlds best Vanadium at their Menchin Mine in Bahia State Brazil. I was lucky enough to view this operation in it’s entirety while I was there earlier this year creating custom images for Largo Resources marketing materials.
These images have also appeared in their social media platforms and recently showcased in a marketing brochure posted on The Mining Global Website. Written by Harry Menear and produced by Richard Deane the brochure covers up to date information on their record breaking year.
Having high impact custom created photography ties in well with the information that your company is providing to the public and the images I create make designing the layouts efficient with the variety of images I provide.

Over the years I have seen my images being put to good use across multiple platforms throughout a variety of clients all over the world. Magazine covers, back covers, headliners, social media ads, trade show booths, job posting, product announcements and press releases just to name a few.
When you compare the cost of professional photography services to the quality of custom images created as well as the versatility and time of use throughout the companies branding and marketing campaigns, these custom images cost dollars to create.
Of course there are hundreds of thousands of stock images you can choose from but I will be honest, those stock images are passed over by everyone who see them. Why? Because often the images used are not associated with the actual company. You want people to invest in your vision, your name, your product and most of all in your company and for these reasons alone you should be showcasing your people, facilities and shops using custom created photography. In the end your ROI will have paid for itself and continue to do so each year new photography is created.
“When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow.”
― Ursula K. Le Guin
Creating shadows is one of my favorite pastimes while I am at work. This was a tricky image to create as I was very limited on where I could maneuver as well as providing extra illumination for the proper exposure. In the end I like how simple the image is as well as the storytelling.
Spring is here (so they tell me) and Summer is right around the corner and soon our area will be covered with the color green again. Each year I get to photograph the reclamated areas and I am always impressed with the amount of growth obtained since my last visit. The smells are different, the colors are vibrant and even the sounds are multiplied as new insects and animals make their way into the newest habitat.
I was approached to photograph the 2014 Ontario Mine Rescue Competition which was being held at a local arena. I knew it was going to be face paced at times and that I would have to use minimal gear to capture the event. Even though it was a simulation being on the floor with the teams was intense and I knew I wanted to capture that feeling in my images. I tried to focus on each moment as it happened and capture an image that told part of the story. It was a great experience to capture and watch and I congratulate and thank all those that are involved in our Mine Rescue Services.

I was waiting patiently for them start emerging from the mine entrance so that I could capture some candid moments during the shift change. Some walk on past without lifting their heads. Some are already in a deep conversation with their coworkers reviewing the days activities and some take a moment to pause, look at the camera and give me a little something to capture.

I come from a family of greenthumbs. My Grandfather tended a wonderful vegetable and flower garden throughout my childhood, my mother always has fresh greens to give away when I am visiting and my Sister created a gardening tool for the garden industry www.pinchpruner.com. So when I find myself in the greenhouses on the mine sites I always take the time to browse around, ask questions and see what the different types of plants and trees they growing for reclamation. I have photographed fish stocking, tree planting, vegetable harvesting, hay cutting and bee keeping all to regenerate, rejuvenate and reclamate past mine sites and some grand scales it’s mighty impressive.
