I captured this image of Mr. Lopes as I liked the composition this vantage point created overlooking the project that Lopes Ltd (www.lopesltd.com) was spearheading. Felix mentioned to me that it would be a great overhead view of the project and once I captured some installation progress images I took advantage of the scene to create this portrait.
I remember watching the slag being poured at this very spot when I was younger. It was a big mountain of black rock called slag but is now covered with lush green grass, wild flowers and large milkweed patches that Vale has transformed throughout their reclamation process. The milkweed plant is crucial to the Monarch butterflies survival as they use the plant to lay their eggs. It’s also a great habitat for the Black-and-Yellow Argiope (spider) seen below which you can find hanging around every step you take but don’t worry, they are harmless and if you look closely you can see just how beautiful their markings are.
Note: They are harmless to us, but to the common grasshopper…………..not so much.
The 2019 Extended Wheel Base Mine Runner got a glamour photo shoot recently just outside of Sudbury, Ontario Canada. The spacious front cab had loads of room for me to get some of my equipment front and center. Its not an easy capture but I liked how the final image turned out for my client www.rockbreaker.com where it is already used in their current marketing campaign.
Last week I had the great privileged to photograph some of the operating crew of our local Air Ornge for the Health Sciences North Foundation project I am volunteering with. After we finished capturing the initial image I wanted to create a portrait of each the crew individually as a thank you for taking the time out of their busy day and allowing me access to their operation.
I came home after vacation to find the new MMTS Publication waiting for me in the mail. I provided the cover photo which I created at Gold Corp’s Musslewhite Mine located in Ontario Canada. Visit the Mining Showcase at the New Sudbury Center this week.
Spring is here (so they tell me) and Summer is right around the corner and soon our area will be covered with the color green again. Each year I get to photograph the reclamated areas and I am always impressed with the amount of growth obtained since my last visit. The smells are different, the colors are vibrant and even the sounds are multiplied as new insects and animals make their way into the newest habitat.
Some describe it like playing a video game in a vast environment while others say they like the small enclosed space of the cab as their personal work bubble. Each machine has it’s unique perspective in the mining world as well as it’s challenges but then again this is not your typical run of the mill work environment.
What does your Mining Machine Office space look like?
It’s not what I think, but what my clients think. The one thing I can promise you – I will always strive to give you my best work from what I have to work with, I guarantee it. I have put my face and name behind my business and I aim to keep them both at the highest level of professionalism I can achieve.
It takes a select few images to showcase quality on a website. We sometimes laugh while on location about how long it takes to setup lighting for a specific scenario but the actual “capture” of the scenario takes a minute or two. I sound like a broken record preaching about having high impact images to showcase your company and product as well as solidifying your branding in your industry.
I came across an image I created for www.epiroc.com that is now featured on their global website. It never get’s old seeing your clients showcase their work using your work.
