In The Cab
From my session with www.cat.com. I opened the door to the R1700 XE Battery Electric Underground Loader to get a better view of the cab.

Locking in your shock absorbing lanyard before the inspection.
I added a vignette to this image to guide your eyes to the story. Lights, faces, safety gloves, lanyard hook.

Underground in Red Lake Ontario with Pure Gold Mining (www.puregoldmining.ca) When someone takes the time to show me around, ensure my safety and answer all my questions, the least I can do is capture a great image.

It felt good to get back underground with Equipment North Inc. and Warren Cayen to create a few visuals of this Encreter Universal, a skid-mounted shotcrete boom

Light is light. I have said this for years and my mentor said this years before that. It doesn’t matter what type of light we use, it all does the same thing in the end. The “mastery” of it comes from years of practice, playing, manipulating and controlling it. Intensity, direction and form are three qualities of light I “focus” on for every image. How much light to use, what direction do I want it to come from and how soft do I want it look on my subjects all depends on what I have to photography, where I have to photograph it, and how much time do I have to complete it.

I have a saying. I think I first said it back in 2001 ~ “It’s not that I am smart, I just try things until I get it right.”
It took me a few different tries to capture everything in this image to tell the story. Changes in composition, subject placement and camera angle were made to create the final image.

I get contacted a lot from trade magazines inquiring about the images I create for my clients. More often than not it’s in regards to an article they are featuring but do not have a sufficient image to accompany the article. I ask each of them what their criteria is for a cover photo or feature photo and the majority all say, “something that stands out”. It’s the “PHOTO” that makes the cover. Each time your company has a write up in a trade magazine your company has a chance to be on the cover and it depends on the image that is provided.
Online articles are another key resource to getting your company, equipment, service featured as a headline. If you know you are going to be featured make sure you are prepared to provide imagery that will stand out and get readers attention.

One of my favorite times to work (when it’s warm) is when daylight has ended and I get an hour or two to capture the site at night. The sounds are different, it seems like things are slower but it is an illusion of sound. I have no timeline, no shot list, just me, the camera, and the night.

Captured this Kovatera Unit from the shop floor to it’s natural underground environment. When all goes as plan just a few hours we created eye catching images of all angles that showcase this units features.
For this image there were a few slight adjustments made to get the specific perspective as well as the proper composition for your eyes to remain on the focal point. Done correctly a photographer can draw your attention to any part of an image, This is a key strategy for any image used for marketing. Subject, focal point, retention.
Image created for Technica Mining at their industrial shop in Sudbury, Ontario.
