I had the pleasure of photographing some products from Jannatec (www.jannatec.com) awhile back including their famous Johnny Light. I am sure a lot of you are familiar with their products especially those of you working underground in Ontario. After photographing and playing with the different lights I had to have “The One” light as part of my PPE.

As I was photographing this area of the mine site I noticed a break in the clouds coming towards us. I waited about 7 minutes for it to pass over giving me some extra light on the machines below.

Another single portrait I created while on assignment at an Ontario mine. It takes just a few minutes to setup and create an individual portrait like this but this miner will have this image for a very long time. When I am contracted to cover the operations of a company the workers are just as important as the equipment and processes in showing the success of the company.

Even if I am photographing something as simple as a product shot or a piece of equipment, I will always try to create more impact with external lighting. Shadows can be a good thing. They add depth to the image and give more detail to the product. Oh, and make sure you nail down the exposure too. Your a professional.
Another scoop of paydirt is on it’s way to be processed. The higher vantage point allowed me to capture a part of the dragline on the other side of stockpile.

More and more companies are banning the use of stickers on hard hats. Over the years I have collected a few stickers for my bucket. Some have peeled off waiting for new ones to take their place. Your hardhat is like a trustee pair of jeans, the older they get the better the fit. Thoughts?
