Did you know that July 1st, 2016 is the deadline for required High Visibility Safety Apparel? That’s right, if you work in a mine after July you will be required (by law) to wear high visibility PPE. Why am I posting this on a photography site? Well, you should also consider all your marketing materials and photographs you use to showcase your company. They will no longer be relevant in the eyes of safety standard which could look poorly on your company. Time to update your photo library? I know someone who can help.
Read the new amended Safety Act for the updated info

Shooting in the Salt Flats is something that is on my bucket list but at the moment all I can muster up is some snow in a cold Ontario Winter day. Looks like Salt. LOL

A great write-up in the recent edition of Sudbury Mining Solutions on Macleans new Battery-Powered Scissor Bolter (CV3) that I photographed earlier last Month in Sudbury.

I enjoy getting snailmail. When I come home from shooting and I see something sticking out of the mailbox, a little bit of joyful glee comes over me when I realize it’s an industry magazine. I take my time going through each page reading the articles and enjoying the photography of others in the industry but in the back of my head I am hoping to see one of my images being used every time I flip the page. It’s not about me, but more about my clients. I enjoy the fact that they are using my images for what they were intended for in the proper marketing media.
Here are a few images that were recently in the latest issue of www.miningmagazine.com for writeups on 2 of my clients Joy Global and Dumas Mining

The shoot was finished, my gear packed up and we were pulling away in the mine truck when I noticed one last image. Time was a factor as we needed to make the cage so I quickly setup the camera on a tripod and while the shutter was open I used the Supervisors Flashlight to light up the back of the Maclean Mine Mate. It’s a simple technique that has it’s value in certain situations…………..like this one.

It’s hard to put things into perspective while looking at an image on a media screen but if you notice the drill rig just over in the next pit top center you can gauge just how massive this earth moving machines really are.
Take a look at the images you are using to market your company. Are they out of date? Irrelevant? Low Quality? STOCK? If you answered YES to any of these then your marketing materials are misrepresenting your company.
The subject line says it all, but in case you missed the sarcastic tone in the text………hire a professional.
A lot of the times I don’t fit in the spaces I need to get the shot so I will “mount” my camera using cable, ducttape, clamps or even zipties and then remote trigger the camera as I did for the below image.

Depending on the location I am traveling/photographing factors what lighting equipment I will be using. The first thing I try is to utilize is the lighting that is already present but more often it isn’t enough to properly light the scene so I use external strobes and light modifiers to enhance the already present lighting.
