Using a longer exposure to capture this refinery smooths out the steam and enhances the facilities lighting creating a more dramatic effect.

It was all smiles while photographing this industrial mechanic. Even though the temp was above 32 degrees with 90% humidity he laughed when I told him it was -32 C back home.

While I was paused in traffic along Big Nickle Mine Dr. this Atlas Copco Surface Drill caught my eye. The bright yellow of the drill was in stark contrast to the clouds and I knew it would make an interesting photograph.

There is no way to gauge the enormity of these machines without some comparison. By placing a person in front of the bucket the viewer can gauge the size of the hydraulic shovel.

Of all things I love photographing on the mine site the Jumbo drill takes the cake (until I get to photograph a bucket wheel excavator). For this image below I used a little back lighting to draw more attention to the operator than to the boom arms. This photo was created for Dumas at the Young Davidson Mine in Matachewan.
“James was an absolute pleasure to work with, he is affordable and very accommodating. The photography he produced was exactly what we were looking for, it was high quality and we received our pictures with a short turnaround time. We will definitely hire James again.”

How many of you knew that my logo was created using 3 of my mining industrial images? I wanted to incorporate some of my work into my brand but I obviously lacked the skills to create the artwork, so I hired a professional graphic designer to complete my vision. Here are the 3 images he merged into creating my logo.
On the left is my masterpiece I tried to create before seeking professional help (for the logo) and on the right the finished logo.

On my way back from Fairbank lake we flew over the old/new site of KGHM located near the old Victoria Mine site (42 minutes West of Sudbury Ontario). Excavators and haul trucks are working around the clock clearing the site so that construction can start. The estimated time for completion is 2019 and will employee up to 300 employees.

This Atlas Copco Scoop Tram 1520 had the run of the pit after being fully refurbished by the AC team. After the team tested all functions of the scoop it was off to Dumas to be put back into action at the Young Davidson site in Matachewan.

Sometimes people just walk into frame to complete the composition. I captured this last month while photographing Ledcor Mining operations at the Young Davidson Mine in Matachewan Ontario.

While on assignment for www.sherritt.com I decided to climb to a higher vantage point to give me the angle I needed to capture this part of the power plant located in Puerto Escondido Cuba. Clouds were rolling in with heat lightning in the distance which I wanted to capture but unfortunately it ended when I got to the top of the stack.
Getting ready to climb, safety first!
