I get asked the same question almost everytime I am out on the job site (or when I mention I am a Mining/Industrial Photographer). "What do the companies use the images for?" I try to explain to them the many different forms of media that my images may be used for and why it is important for these companies to have high impact, visually pleasing images. Some companies hire me per project while other companies have me on hand for 1 to 3 years to capture all the below photography requests.
Below are few examples where my images have been used for Industry Leading Companies and Corporations.
Product Brochures, Information Pamphlets & Websites
These are the main reasons why I get hired for mining industrial photography. Companies are now learning that stock photography and iphone images are not ideal for portraying the professionalism of their company. When trying to market their service or product they require images that draw your attention, show a lot of detail and don't look like every other generic photo on the market.
Annual Reports, News Articles, Magazine Covers, Press Releases
If a company is going to be featured in a magazine or trade article it's always convenient for them to have high impact images on hand to send to the publisher. These images will stand out and grab the readers attention.
Tradeshow Booths and Convention Banners
A lot of the times my clients will hire me to provide images for their new tradeshow booths and convention materials. The bigger the image, the more eye catching the booth is. I have seen this over and over at tradeshows. The booths that have unique and visually compelling images have the tradeshow attendee's walk slower past their booths, while the booths that have mundane or "stock" images tend to not get a lot of attention.
Progress Shots for Fabrication or Facility Projects
Some companies have hired me to capture progress images of their facilty and projects. These types of contracts usually have a duration of a couple of weeks to a couple of months depending on the scope of the project. Having the same photographer throughout the project ensures that the quallity of the images remain the same. (These images are also used for employee appreciation plaques,)
Aerial photographs are a great way to show a companies facility or property in relation to it's environment. Some people think it's easy photographing from a few hundred feet in the air, but wind, lighting, and altitude all play a major factor in getting a desirable image.
Customer & Employee Appreciation Plaques
When long term projects are completed or an employee is retiring some companies will have me create these appreciation plaques from the images I have created for the company and project. Some companies will have them created to display on their office wall to commemorate the project completion.
Group & Team Photos
Mine rescue teams, safety teams, zero harm safety awards and project teams are all proud to be working together. Companies show their appreciation by getting a group photograph done for prints and news articles.
Companies that have a specific product to sell need images for their catalogues, brochures, websites and other marketing materials. I photograph these products in a studio setting on a plain background or I will photograph the products in the field being used by the company or the clients customers.
When companies bring in CEO's, investors or special guests to tour their facility they will hire me to accompany the group and document their tour with photographs.
Professional Business Portraits
There are two types of "Business Portrait" in the Mining Industrial Fields. The studio portrait and the on location portrait. The on location portrait is usually photographed at the companies facility or in the field where the companies products or services are being used. The studio portrait can be taken in my studio, or I can setup a portable studio on the companies facility.
