Well I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend, I can honestly say it was a quiet one for this mining photog. With the Covid isolation in effect and photography not an essential service, I cannot create any “new” images which gives me a lot of time to organize my website and catch up on some essential reading in the industry.
From www.puregoldmining.ca instagram is an image I created in the core room while on site in Red Lake. Pure Gold currently has 1.2 million meters of drilling in their database.
Stay safe everyone and I hope to see you all on site soon.
Another one of my favorite trips this past year was to Red Lake Ontario to create a visual library for Pure Gold Mining at their Madsen Gold Project.
” James Hodgins did very professional work for the Madsen Gold Project photography when we hired him back in the Fall. I always tell him that they are worthy of a coffee table book on the interesting aspect of underground mining and equipment they use. We would gladly use him again for our project. “

There is just something about this image. As I type this I still cant figure out why this image intrigues me. I have captured 1000’s of images underground over the years but as I was setting up my gear today at Pure Gold’s Madsen site I turned around and there it was. I had to capture it. It’s simple. Two miners having a conversation while they wait for the photographer. I told them to ignore me for a few minutes and I quickly added a little illumination so that my camera could record the scene as the conversation continued. To the photographer, this is gold.
