Along with Gold, Silver, Nickle, Oil & Gas I also get to photograph Diamonds. No they are not in beautiful little box, nor are they behind glass display case, but straight from the mines they were found in. I was lucky enough to watch (and photograph) some of the procedures to creating that exquisite sparkle diamond from a piece of rock that looked rather…….well…………bland at the Crossworks Manufacturing facility.
Once in awhile I get asked to tag along on a mine tour when the mine inventors, CEOs, or board of directors are touring the facilities. I enjoy this type of work because I can pretty well just be in the background and photograph what I can. This particular group got to take the images back to their Country with them as a keepsake. Here are just a few.
A Newalta employee watches as the water is agitated before going through the recycling process. Newalta provides cost-effective solutions to industrial customers to improve their environmental performance with a focus on recycling and recovery of products from industrial residues.
A refinery supervisor overlooks the first stage of the tailings pond, one of three ponds on the property. Tailing ponds are areas of refused mining tailings where the waterborne refuse material is pumped into a pond to allow the sedimentation (meaning separation) of solid particles from the water. When the process is completet the purified water can thus be reused in the processing cycle. The tailings from this facility are from actual tailings where minerals were further removed due to advancement in technology.
Safety is something that I take very seriously when on a job site, and for good reason too. I may not be a Miner or Industrial worker but I am in some of the same environments facing some of the same hazards. From on top of cranes or down in holes and trenches the possibility for something to go wrong is always present. That is why I am constantly taking training courses on safety so that I can remain safe on the job site. Today I just finished my Confine Space course along with the Fall Arrest Module, 2 places where I could find myself in the near future again. Being prepared is the best measure to keep myself, and my contracted company safe.
