Front and center and a genuine smile. This is what makes a great candid people portrait. We sometimes tweak around with lighting, composition and location to ensure a quality image but the most important aspect of the capture is the ability to make our subject comfortable in front of the camera.

Return Of The Cobalt Refinery

Before it was First Cobalt (www.firstcobalt.com) I visited this facility just on the outskirts of Cobalt Ontario back in 2013 to create images for United Commodity. I spent the day touring the refinery and area creating images of all aspects of the process. At the current time the facility was used to extract remaining gold and silver from old tailings from the region. It was quit the process and facility and it’s great to see the resurrection of this unique facility.

Electric Vehicles Have Found A Home Under The Earth | Mining Industrial Photographer James Hodgins

Recently I found myself at Glencore’s Nickel Rim South Mine photographing another of Maclean Engineering’s Electric Fleet.  I am always thrilled to create images for Macleans and I was even more thrilled to finally find my way underground at Nickel Rim where I was pleasantly surprised by the organization and cleanliness of the mine (yes, I notice everything).  While electric vehicles are starting to become more and more popular in the mining industry, testing all the applications and variables for maximum efficiency is still the key factors in R & D.  For more information check out Stuart Listers (Director of Marketing & Communications) recently published Linkedin post “UX Meets EV”
