Miners give the pass a triple look over to ensure that the area is safe to work in. Mine safety is of the utmost importance.

As I was heading into Totten mine for an early morning shoot I quickly grabbed this image as I was walking to the headframe. Early morning fog was rising from the surrounding ponds as the sun backlit the facility.

Well I had a great time photographing Oil, Gas, Nickel & Coal facilities across Saskatchewan and Alberta last week. Along with hours of photography comes hours of organizing and processing the finished photos. I like to call this “The Grind”.

This photo of me was captured while I was photographing “Bigfoot”, a massive Dragline Excavator here in Alberta. Photographing this massive piece of machinery is another checkmark off my bucket list. Hopefully I can scratch off a few more in the next few days on this trip.
Yesterday I had great shoot (first of a few) at the Nordex Explosives facility in Kirkland Lake Ontario. This session revolved around the process of creating their unique Econotrim Buttbuster. Econotrim Buttbuster is a one piece custom length bright yellow semi-rigid coiled charge designed for rapid charging of perimeter boreholes in underground mines. Specifically designed for delivering smooth walls and a safer controlled blast in development headings and shaft sinking. Looking forward to creating more images for Nordex Explosives.

Whenever possible I try to use what light is available, but most of the time I have to add a few of my own. If I can I will grab light sources that are already present in the shop and use them to my advantage.

Flying out towards my cottage today I grabbed this quick shot of First Nickel Lockerby Mine. I actually have some fond memories of this site when I was a kid. My Grandfather was an on site security guard there and at one point lived on site with my Grandmother. They had this huge mobile home right on the mine site. I would go visit him regularly as our cottage was not far away. I remember staying overnight there and even riding my bike around the site. I was about 8 or 9 at the time. Fond memories for sure.

Anmar Mechanical & Electrical Contractors LTD pack a big punch when it comes to some of their heavy equipment. I had a chance to grab a few images while observing one of their latest projects. I’m looking forward to creating some unique images for this impressive company.

It’s around the clock in the Canadian Mining Industry operations as everyone knows that time is money is ………well………..good. I enjoy photographing mine sites at night as it brings a whole set of new challenges to the table.
