How Cool Is This?
When I saw the scale model resting on the shelf in his office I asked “Can I take a picture of that?” He replied “Sure, if you think you could do something with it.“
I already had the image formulated in my head before I even asked the question, so we walked onto the Kovatera shop floor and executed my plan.

As my website says www.miningindustrialphotographer.com I do capture a large amount of industrial images (I will start posting more). With projects constantly coming into and out of the shops creative images can be used for an archived library, social media updates as well as a personal gesture to the employees. This capture was created while walking the Lopes Limited industrial shop.

Measure twice cut once. We have all heard that saying before. It implies that double checking your work along the way ensures that you will not have to go back and “fix” it afterwards. I apply this same mindset to all my mining, industrial and commercial shoots no matter how simple the image may be.
I don’t want to have to go into photoshop and “fix” any mistakes like exposure, composition, color and sharpness. These are all things that are checked and rechecked throughout the shoot before I press that shutter button. This ensures quality, efficiency and professionalism.

I have mentioned this a few times over the years in my posts. One of the main objectives of creating a “stand alone” image is the ability to tell a story. This happens not only by capturing the photo but how we “present” the image as well. Techniques we used in the darkroom are the same techniques we use within our editing software. The lights from the jumbo spill everywhere lighting up the whole area and in turn looks very flat and 2 dimensional. By darkening those areas (burning the image) I now bring your attention to where I want, where the story is being told.
Anyone take a picture…………..anyone.

My mining industry career started with photographing exploration and drilling so to get back on site and above ground was familiar territory for me. It’s a faster paced scenario for photography with challenges like weather, timing and “where to stand” but in the end these challenges add to the creation process and end product.

Caterpillar R1700 XE
I found this a few minutes ago while doing my morning “research” browsing sites, online magazines, news updates and social media for updates on the industry as well as where my images might be showcased.
Along with the loader the Cat MEC500 Charging Stations were also highlighted during the underground shoot.

Sometimes it takes a year or two or three before my images are public and so that is when I will share with my viewers as well. There are still 100’s of images that I wish to share from these past few years but like me, you will have to be patient so stay tuned.

I have a fascination for mechanics and when I look back I wish I took more classes in school but at the time I had no interest, in fact I had no interest in school at all lol. With the amount of trades within the mining industry today anyone can find something that will appeal to their inner talent, something that will challenge them as well as give them a sense of accomplishment and professionalism.

The Komatsu WX07 (2 into one image), I was going to post both but figured I would edit them into one. These are from a series of images we created for Komatsu Mining last year at the NORCAT Training Facility.
