When I ask someone if they would like their portrait taken and they quickly reply “YES, that would great!” I know I will get a capture they will love. I get a sense of accomplishment when I create a portrait that when you look at, you can see the confidence, accomplishment and sense of pride in the work they do. Love the work you do.

A quick underground snap of my PA (Personal Assistant) Brent. I would be a lot more tired if this guy wasn’t with me. Always on par with what I needed, where I needed it and when I needed him. It was like old times and for the most part we didn’t even need to speak to each other as specific hand signals came back like a second language to us. Having the extra time before the shoot and during setup to talk to my subjects has brought my client experience to another level and when your subjects have a great experience you create a better product.
Thanks again Brent and www.pendaproductions.com for another success. #miningphotog #pendaproductions
I had Chris assist me on a recent assignment where it was his first time underground so of course I had to create my signature mining portrait for him as a memento. It was great having the extra pair of hands, eyes and thought process of another creative during this trip. Thanks again Chris.
I had a few minutes to create individual portraits for each of the participants of the Health Sciences North Foundation photoshoot with Air Ornge after we completed the initial creative shot. Lighting was a bit tricky with lots of reflection coming from the helicopters windshield but in the end it worked ok if I do say so myself.
I created this quick portrait of Michael after we and the team finished another successful photoshoot with Epiroc here in Northern Ontario. It’s always a pleasure working with Michael and the Epiroc Team as we are constantly bouncing ideas off each other in order to create some unique images.
In a few days we created hundreds of images of their staff, equipment and industrial shops that they can now use throughout their marketing materials for the next year.
“Manroc recently hired Mining Industrial Photographer which is owned and operated by James Hodgins. James visited Manroc’s offices and shops in Manitouwadge Ontario. He also spent two days underground at one of our clients site to capture our Alimak and Lateral projects. His performance was outstanding, all our employees enjoyed working with him and the pictures we received were above and beyond expectations. Manroc is very excited to release the pictures on our new website and job postings. I would highly recommend hiring James for any of your photography needs as he is sure to provide excellent and unique results!”
Thank you,
Katie

It was Sumit’s first time underground here at the Eldorado Lamaque Site and I was glad to be able to join my MacLean’s Rep on his first journey to the underworld. After our day photographing some of the MacLean fleet I had to take a few moments and create his first underground portrait.
It’s a simple concept when I created this portrait. The lighting, composition as well as the lack of color are all minimal but why does it work? Personally I think it’s the expression on Kevin’s face. A simple smile that says a lot. It’s genuine. You can tell he’s enjoying the session, proud of the work he does for the company he works for www.provincialdoors.com . This image started with a conversation to get to know who he is and what he does and the truth is I am interested in everything he says because not only does he take pride in his work but in our conversation he knows that I take pride in mine and my goal is to capture a portrait that he can be proud of.
This was Henry’s last shift in the warehouse at Musselwhite Mine in Northern Ontario. At the end of the day he was officially retired so I took a bit of time to create a quick portrait of him on the job.
