Once the sun dips down behind the horizon the mine site takes on a completely different look. I love capturing images at this time as it’s a great way to blend colors and lighting into the same environment. When we arrived on site the first day and drove past this location at night I new I wanted to come back and capture this image. Big thanks to Abdel Camacho for taking me around for a sunset drive. Stop by the Alamos Gold Booth #2722 at PDAC 2019
Once I am at the location to be photographed I will setup my equipment and then discuss the different scenarios that are needed to be photographed for my client. For each scenario I will have to formulate a shooting angle and then light that specific scene to draw attention to the specified areas. In some cases I will have to create multiple images with different lighting to be merged into one final image due to limitations to the area we are shooting and safety protocols .

High quality photography is a key component to any visual marketing material. I often do not get to see my images in the final products used by my clients so as I was walking the trade show at #PDAC2017 I made sure to grab some snapshots of some of my clients marketing materials that featured images I created for them. There were some amazing booths at the show with some that were very eye catching, especially when the images were large, professional and had visual impact. I look forward to creating more images for new clients this Summer so that they will have a unique booth at PDAC2018.
I know that stock photography is readily available and it could be useful when in a tight deadline (unless you create your marketing material a year in a advance) but why would a company want another companies image on their marketing material? On several occasions walking through industry trade shows I have seen the same image on several different booths. Shouldn’t the images in your marketing material be of your company? Your employees? Your products and services? The cost of stock photography to cover the companies branding usually ends up costing more than hiring a professional photographer to create custom images of the company. Your company! I always wondered if the people working the trade show booth get embarrassed when someone asks them who the person is in the picture and they reply “Oh. That’s just a stock photo”. Now I know not all marketing material requires custom images and most of the time advertising companies are on a tight deadline and need something fast, but, if time is available I do encourage to seek out a professional photographer for their photography needs.
I get asked the same question almost every time I am out on the job site (or when I mention I am a Mining/Industrial Photographer). “What do the companies use the images for?” I try to explain to them the many different forms of media that my images may be used for and why it is important for these companies to have high impact, visually pleasing images. Some companies hire me per project while other companies have me on hand for 1 to 3 years to capture all the below photography requests.
These are the main reasons why I get hired for mining industrial photography. Companies are now learning that stock photography and iphone images are not ideal for portraying the professionalism of their company. When trying to market their service or product they require images that draw your attention, show a lot of detail and don’t look like every other generic photo on the market.

The next big industry event is just around the corner with less than 6 weeks preparation time. PDAC 2016 is coming up fast and if you have not started making preparations for your marketing materials for this event you are going to be cutting it close. Sit down with your marketing department (if you have one) and start discussing what changes you might need to make for this years trade show season. Last summer I had the chance to work with Tracks & Wheels here in Sudbury, Ontario creating visuals for their new marketing materials spearheaded by Norman Studio‘s. Both teams were excellent to work with. Looking forward to seing more of their materials over the next year.

photoshoot could yield you enough custom imagery for your social media marketing for ONE WHOLE YEAR! Contact Mining Industrial Photographer for more information.
I was at the PDAC (Prospectors & Developers Association Of Canada) Tradeshow this past week in Toronto and I was pleased to see a few Companies putting the images I created for them to good use. Not only do the use the images for their website, but also the Company Profile Reports, Product Catalogues and shown here……….tradeshow booths.
