I have an immediate 3 part processes when I create images for my clients.

1. Let me see what you do

2. Let me find a camera angle to capture it

3. Let me light it for maximum realistic effect.

Watching my subject work gives me an immediate opportunity to formulate a game plan for the image. I need to see where/how they position themselves, where they are looking and what they are doing. As well, I also take a glimpse into step 2.

The camera angle/position is a MAJOR factor in creating eye catching images. Looking at the surrounding environment to see if there are any elements that might distract the eye to view that part of the image first rather than the main subject. The goal is to have one distinct subject viewed first, then complimentary elements viewed second. What I mean is, I want your eyes to go to the my subject first, then notice stuff in the background and sidelines.

There is no one lighting setup for everything. Every image requires specific lighting in relation to the subject and environment. My goal is to accent the lighting that is already there without it looking like I have added more. This is the biggest challenge with mining industrial environments.

I have gotten the whole process down to a few minutes now but that comes with a few years of repetition & practice. Some creations can take a minute, and some can take longer but that is the challenge with creating impactful images.
